Two University of Georgia football players were arrested Friday on misdemeanor shoplifting charges just weeks before the Bulldogs are scheduled to compete in the College Football Playoff, according to police records.
Freshmen running back Bo Walker and offensive lineman Dontrell Glover were taken into custody by local authorities in Athens on charges of theft by shoplifting. Both players were booked into the Clarke County Jail and later released after posting bonds of $26 each.
University of Georgia athletics officials acknowledged the incident in a brief statement, confirming that the program is aware of the arrests and is continuing to gather information. The university declined to comment further while the legal process is ongoing.
Glover, a Georgia native, has seen playing time on the offensive line this season and has been regarded as a promising freshman contributor. Walker has played a more limited role but recorded multiple touchdowns in recent appearances.
The arrests come as Georgia prepares for its upcoming College Football Playoff matchup following a strong regular season. It is not yet known whether the incident will affect the players’ availability for postseason play or result in internal disciplinary action.
The situation adds to a series of off-field legal issues involving members of the Georgia football program over the past year. Team officials have not indicated whether additional measures will be taken pending the outcome of the case.
Georgia is scheduled to play its College Football Playoff game on New Year’s Day, with further details to be determined based on remaining bowl outcomes.
