Three days after an Albuquerque judge issued an arrest warrant, Emmy Award-winning actor and director Timothy Busfield remains at large. Authorities have enlisted the U.S. Marshals Service to assist the Albuquerque Police Department in locating the 68-year-old, known for his roles in The West Wing and thirtysomething.

Busfield faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse, stemming from allegations involving twin boys who were child actors on the set of the Fox series The Cleaning Lady, where he served as both actor and director.

The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between November 2022 and spring 2024, beginning when one of the boys was just seven years old. Court documents detail claims that Busfield groomed the children, encouraging them to call him “Uncle Tim” and buying them gifts. One boy described multiple instances of inappropriate touching to his “private areas,” while the other reported similar contact in a bedroom on set. The children have since suffered nightmares, anxiety, bed-wetting, and diagnoses including post-traumatic stress disorder, according to therapists and medical reports.

The case surfaced gradually. An anonymous tip to the SAG-AFTRA hotline in February 2025 led Warner Bros. to investigate a December 2024 incident involving Busfield allegedly kissing a minor on the face in a trailer, though the studio initially found no substantiating evidence. By November 2024, a physician at the University of New Mexico Hospital flagged concerns of grooming, prompting police involvement. The boys’ mother reported the abuse to Child Protective Services in October 2025, escalating the matter to formal charges.

During questioning, Busfield denied overt wrongdoing but acknowledged possible physical contact, suggesting it might have been playful tickling. He claimed the accusations arose from “revenge” after the boys were not invited back for the show’s final season, which concluded in 2025. Fox and Warner Bros. issued a joint statement emphasizing their priority on safety: “The health and safety of our cast and crew is always our top priority, especially the safety of minors on our productions.”

Adding to the family’s turmoil, Busfield’s wife, actress Melissa Gilbert of Little House on the Prairie fame, has deactivated her Instagram and Threads accounts. Attempts to access her profile now return an error message indicating the account may have been removed. This development follows her November 2025 posts reflecting on her own experiences as a child actor, including being required to kiss an older man on screen at age 15, which she described through today’s lens as shocking.

The ongoing search underscores persistent concerns about protections for child performers in Hollywood. Patterns of authority figures exploiting trust on sets appear repeatedly in industry scandals, raising questions about whether safeguards truly prevent such alleged harm. As law enforcement intensifies efforts with federal assistance, no updates indicate Busfield has been located or surrendered.
