Sally Buzbee has stepped down as The Washington Post’s top editor after just three years, the newspaper announced Sunday evening.
No reason was immediately given for Buzbee’s departure as executive editor, a job she ascended to after years as a top executive at The Associated Press wire service.
The Post said she will be replaced temporarily by Matt Murray, former editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal.
After the 2024 presidential election, Robert Winnett will take over as the permanent executive editor, the newspaper said. Winnett currently serves as deputy editor of the Telegraph Media Group.“Sally is an incredible leader and a supremely talented media executive who will be sorely missed,” Post Publisher Will Lewis said in a statement. “I wish her all the best going forward.
