‘The View’ Co-Host Sara Haines Says Trump Showing Up on Several Podcasts Is Having a Major Effect With Young Americans

(DCNF)—“The View” co-host Sara Haines said on Monday that Republican nominee Donald Trump is showing he “cares” about young voters by appearing on several podcasts that are popular with the demographic.

Haines said Trump’s “podcast tour” is reaching massive audiences of young voters who do not watch traditional media, which she argued will have a positive effect for the former president. Vice President Kamala Harris, who has come under fire for her lack of media appearances, sat down with CNN host Dana Bash on Aug. 29 for her first and only sit-down interview one month after launching her presidential campaign.

“Donald Trump is doing something that was just brought to my attention this weekend,” Haines said. “He’s on a podcast tour, like with some pretty crazy people, but the reach of these podcasts is massive. They’re getting millions of hits … he is hitting them all and they’re talking about what you’d expect from him, nothing. But the important point is here is that those people who are watching are mostly geared toward young people, so they’re not watching CNN, Fox, The View. They’re on podcasts.”

“So whether they agree or not, because these aren’t political podcasts, so this isn’t like a conservative group of people, they’re seeing that he cares enough to show up and be there, and I think it’s having an effect somewhat with these young people,” Haines continued.

Trump appeared on comedian Theo Von’s podcast on Aug. 21 where they covered a range of topics including Harris, addiction, martial arts and pop culture, which received 13 million views as of Monday. He also appeared on computer scientist Lex Fridman’s podcast on Sept. 3, which garnered 4.7 million views.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said Harris needs to participate in more interviews and be heard by the voters ahead of the “toss-up” presidential race in November.

“I would encourage the vice president, she’s busy, do more interviews. Voters need to hear more from her, they want to know more. 28% of voters said they feel like they need to learn a little bit more about her and her policies. Come on ‘The View,’ go on CNN, do local press. That matters,” Griffin said.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg argued Harris is too busy campaigning and prepping for the Sept. 10 debate to find the time to participate in interviews.

Harris’ campaign communications director Michael Tyler said on Aug. 14 that Harris planned on doing an interview by the end of that month during an interview with CNN’s Jim Acosta, but did not commit to holding a press conference. Trump held two press conferences in the month of August, where he took questions from a wide range of media outlets.

Harris joined the pre-taped interview on CNN with her running mate, Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, where they answered questions for under 30 minutes. Harris did not explain the reason why many of her policy positions have changed since her time as a U.S. senator and 2020 presidential campaign.
