(DCNF)—Piers Morgan was baffled Tuesday after former Navy SEAL and former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura claimed President Donald Trump staged his assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa., fired multiple rounds at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pa., on July 13, 2024, killing at least two people and critically wounding others, while Secret Service rushed Trump off the stage for evaluation. He was safe. During an appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Ventura repeatedly questioned the authenticity of the incident, suggesting Trump fabricated elements of the attack to bolster his image.
“You ever hear of a blade job?” Ventura asked.
“A blade? What, you think it was fake?” Morgan asked.
“I don’t know. Where’s his scar today?” Ventura asked.
“Somebody died, literally, sitting behind him,” Morgan said.
Ventura asked whether Trump’s actions during the Butler shooting qualified him as a hero.
“Come on, Piers. You’re gonna tell me this guy’s a big hero now?” Ventura asked.
“I thought that day he was, yeah,” Morgan said.
“Yeah, well, then he accomplished what he wanted out of you guys,” Ventura added.
“No, I think you can be heroic on one day, and he can be less heroic on others. But if you ask me, was he heroic when he got shot? Yeah,” Morgan said.
Almost two years after the Butler attack, authorities have disclosed limited information about Crooks, and the FBI still has not determined his motive. Records indicate Crooks once registered as a Republican and in January 2021 gave $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project through ActBlue. According to an anonymous source cited by The Daily Beast, investigators unlocked his encrypted phone and saw his last search was for pornography.
Federal officials also told lawmakers that the FBI looked into an online gaming threat connected to Steam but later concluded the account in question was not Crooks’s. More uncertainty arose after data highlighted by the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project showed a device linked to someone who frequently visited Crooks’s home and job also appeared near an FBI field office in Washington, D.C. In November, the FBI concluded that Crooks acted alone.
