New York’s top court declined Tuesday to hear GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s gag order appeal, finding that the challenge does not raise “substantial” constitutional issues.
Trump’s legal team had appealed to the state’s high court May 15 while the hush money trial was underway. Since then, Trump has been found guilty on all counts by the jury.
His lawyers had argued that the gag order limits his right to free speech during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Juan Merchan, the judge in the hush money trial, might soon rule on a request to lift the gag order that he imposed.
