Thousands of German soldiers will soon be deployed in Lithuania, but unlike their brutal occupation of the Baltic States during World War II, the Germans have actually been invited this time. In a historic agreement, the two NATO members have agreed to deploy approximately 4,800 German soldiers and many of their families in Lithuania, making this Germany’s first permanent foreign troop deployment since their defeat in World War II.
Initially announced in June, Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas and his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, unveiled a comprehensive “Roadmap Action Plan,” outlining the details of the deployment.
Glad to host my 🇩🇪 colleague Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and sign a roadmap outlining the intentions of both countries regarding the deployment of the 🇩🇪 brigade in 🇱🇹 and subsequent steps for its full deployment. #Bundeswehr #BrigadeLTU pic.twitter.com/W1TsgVxwdG

In return for assisting with Germany’s military expansion, Lithuania will provide all of the necessary infrastructure, both civilian and military.
According to Newsweek:
Lithuanian lawmaker Laurynas Kasciunas, head of the parliamentary National Security and Defense Committee, said the country will allocate 0.3 percent of its gross domestic product over the next several years to help fund the deployment and to build housing, training grounds and other infrastructure for the German troops.
Taxes will likely have to be raised to accommodate this plan, he said.
Pistorius compared the agreement to the stationing of allied forces in West Germany during the Cold War to defend Western Europe in the event of a Soviet attack, according to Reuters.
Although many Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians welcomed the invasion of Nazi Germany at first because it liberated them from the occupation of the Soviet Union, they quickly learned they were merely swapping one monstrous oppressor for another. Now we’re here, nearly eight decades later, and the Germans are once again being welcomed into the Baltics to protect them from the Russians. Though I’m sure their stay will be a bit less brutal, this time.

Whether Central Bank Digital Currencies replace current fiat currencies or not, precious metals are poised to retain or even increase in value. This is why central banks and mega-asset managers like BlackRock are moving much of their holdings to precious metals.
